"S Anwar is a Chennai based photographer. After completing his visual communication from Loyola Institute of Visual Communication, Loyola College, Chennai, he started off as a freelance journalist and press photographer in 1991. His pictures have appeared in some of the prestigious publications like The Hindu, New York Times, Institutional Investor, Outlook, The Week, India Today, Inside Outside, India Today Plus, etc.
In 1995 he joined Business India, the leading business fortnightly as their staff photographer, which he quit two and a half years latter to pursue fulltime commercial photography. Max Mueller Bhavan (Goethe Institute) in Chennai had nominated 'S Anvar' as Artist of the Month in December 1995. His pictures of dancers were exhibited at the Bhavan. He has also participated in exhibitions.
Anwar has also photographed for a number of corporate brochures and centenary books like ‘Overcoming Challenge’, a pictorial history of Chennai Port Trust and ‘Moving India on Wheels’ – The story of Ashok Leyland, ‘Raj Bhavans of Tamil Nadu’ – The official residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu and ‘Down by the River’- The story of the Madras Boat Club, all written by renowned chronicler of Madras, Mr S Muthiah. His corporate brochures include the likes of Sanmar Group and TTK. He has also been photographing for the highly regarded VIT University brochure for the last 16 years, a testimony to his outstanding and continuously evolving photographic skills.
A deep interest in history and an awareness of the social issues of the day has enabled Anwar to combine his photography aesthetics into making corporate films and Documentary films. His latest work being a series of short films on the Big Temple at Thanjavur, made in commemoration of the 1000th year celebrations of the famous World Heritage Monumen. This prestigious work was commissioned by the Archaeological Survey of India." |
