S Anvar is a Chennai based photographer. After doing his visual communication from Loyola Institute of Visual Communication, Loyola College, Chennai, he started off as a freelance press photographer in 1991. His pictures have appeared in some of the prestigious publications like The Hindu, New York Times, Institutional Investor, Outlook, The Week, India Today, Inside Outside, India Today Plus, etc.
In 1995 he joined Business India, the leading business fortnightly as their staff photographer, which he quit two and a half years latter to pursue fulltime commercial photography. Max Mueller Bhavan( Goethe Institute) in Chennai had nominated 'S Anvar' as Artist of the Month in December 1995. His pictures of dancers were exhibited at the Bhavan. He has also participated in 3 group exhibitions.
The first one was documenting the folk arts of India, organized by National Folklore Support Centre and exhibited at the Government Museum, Chennai. The second group exhibition was of the Tiruvarur temple, organized by the Prakrithi Foundation. The third was a group exhibition of pictures of Dancers exhibited at the Amethyst.
Anvar has also photographed for a number of corporate brochures and centenary books like ‘Overcoming Challenge’, a pictorical history of Chennai Port Trust and ‘Moving India on Wheels’ – The story of Ashok Leyland. He is presently working on a Coffee table book on the ‘Raj Bhavan’ – The official residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, being written by noted historian of Madras, Mr S Muthiah. |
